Amy and Sarah as "Blind leading the blind"
On November 8th 2008 Amy Honeyman, later to be known as “the upsurper” won 1st place in the coveted IPRC Text Ball Costume competition, even though she arrived late. Amy and her friend Sarah came as “The Blind Leading the Blind” with corset tops and large damask skirts which raised and lowered. In the two previous years Shawn Bowman has either won or been titled “best interpretation” (it could be argued that this means she took second to “Serif” and “Sans Serif”, but this may be spitting hairs- or at least infinatives)
The Ball is an annual fundraiser to support the IPRC (Independent Publishing Resource Center) a community organized space which offers classes and work space for self publishing along with the world’s largest Zine Library. Each year art patrons are challenged to “Come Dressed as Text”. No mere costume contest, months of printing and design work can go into a single outfit. For some it is a party and others, the culmination of witty wordplay, elbow grease and hours at the sewing machine…
Remember When We Were Friends is a blog which explores the world of good sportsmanship and craft rivalry with handy tutorials and recipes for good times… many of the featured projects can be found at our Etsy shop Criminal Crafts
